MARADMIN 111/23 - Update to Pregnancy Notification

Scope

MARADMIN 111/23 announces changes to command notification procedures for pregnancy. The MARADMIN implements the USD(P&R) Directive-Type Memorandum dated 2023-02-16 and ALNAV 017/23. The MARADMIN provides privacy protections in the early months of pregnancy. DoD Healthcare Providers (HCPs) presume non-disclosure to the Marine's command authorities prior to 20 weeks gestation unless one of the special circumstances applies. Applicability is the Marine Corps Total Force.

Audience

• Marines who are pregnant or potentially pregnant. Confirm pregnancy with a DoD HCP. Choose to notify command or delay notification up to 20 weeks gestation.
• DoD Healthcare Providers (HCPs). Apply the non-disclosure presumption. Issue light duty chits without reference to pregnancy status when the Marine delays notification.
• Commanding officers and officers in charge. Determine work assignment modifications in consultation with the Marine HCP.
• S-1 staff. Apply duty limitation code D and TTC 157 reporting.

Procedures

• Confirmation. Marine confirms pregnancy through DoD or licensed non-DoD HCP. Initial DoD HCP visit no later than 12 weeks gestation.
• Notification to command. Encouraged on confirmation through Appendix A of MCO 5000.12F. Required no later than 20 weeks gestation.
• Delayed notification. HCP issues a light duty chit with medical temporary non-deployable status without reference to pregnancy. Duty limitation reports as code D under TTC 157.
• Pregnancy termination. HCP provides light duty chit until associated medical care and recovery complete. No reference to pregnancy status.

Special circumstances requiring earlier notification

• Naval Aviators, Naval Flight Officers, Aircrew on DIFOPS. CNAF Manual 3710.7.
• Marines on diving duty. BUMEDINST 6200.15A.
• Special duty assignments requiring SDA physicals (Recruiting, Drill Instructor, Embassy Security Guard).
• Acute medical conditions interfering with duty.
• Marines in receipt of orders to officer accession programs (USNA, NROTC, OCS) or to training not completing before expected delivery date. Notify the program office no later than 90 days prior to report date.
