MARADMIN 637/22 - Extension of Inherent Resolve Campaign Medal for Service in Iraq and Authorization

Scope

MARADMIN 637/22 extends Inherent Resolve Campaign Medal (IRCM) eligibility for service in Iraq through 2022-12-31 and authorizes the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal (GWOT-EM) for service in Iraq under Operation Inherent Resolve (OIR) effective 2023-01-01. The MARADMIN expands the campaign phase windows, then closes the Iraq IRCM window at the end of 2022. Applicability is the Marine Corps Total Force.

Audience

• Marines who served in Iraq during the qualifying periods. Eligible for IRCM.
• Marines deploying to Iraq for OIR on or after 2023-01-01. Receive the GWOT-EM, not the IRCM.
• Commanding officers. Issue the medal under MCTFS unit diary.
• HQMC MMMA. Adjudicates eligibility.

Eligibility windows

• Paragraph 1. The Iraq portion of IRCM eligibility extends through 2022-12-31, then closes. Marines who deployed to Iraq for OIR before 2023-01-01 qualify under the prior IRCM scope.
• Paragraph 2. Effective 2023-01-01, the GWOT-EM is authorized for Service members deployed to Iraq for Operation Inherent Resolve. The transition reflects the closure of IRCM eligibility for Iraq at the end of 2022.
• Paragraph 3. The full list of designated operations authorized for GWOT-EM and the associated areas of eligibility posts at https://prhome.defense.gov/M-RA/Inside-M-RA/MPP/OEPM/.
• Companion scope rule. Per MARADMIN 379/22 paragraph 5.a, effective 2022-07-01, IRCM eligibility narrowed to Syria and its associated airspace and contiguous waters out to 12 nautical miles.
