Scope
MCO 5750.1H is the Manual for the Marine Corps Historical Program. Signed 2009-02-13. The document's opening section states:

Operative content
- The command chronology is a documented report to the Commandant of the Marine Corps covering significant events of designated organizations, retained on the Commandant's behalf in the Archives and Special Collections Branch as a permanent record destined for the National Archives and Records Administration. - Command chronologies not signed by the commanding officer are considered incomplete until the commander or acting commander signs. Enclosure 1 Chapter 5 paragraph 4a.
- Fleet Marine Force units down to battalion or squadron level submit semi-annually, all other commands including Marine Corps Reserve units annually. Appendix A, restated by MARADMIN 200/25 paragraph 3a.
- Chronologies are due no later than 90 days after the reporting period ends, 30 June and 31 December for semiannual and 31 December for annual submissions. IGMC records management checklist item 0501.
- Units on operational deployment for combat submit monthly command chronologies, per MARADMIN 200/25.
- Commanders designate a Staff Historian in writing, per MARADMIN 200/25.
- Command historical summary files hold lineage and honors certificates, streamer entitlement, five years of chronologies, the unit insignia master copy with documentation, and a list of property, facilities, and commemorative sites. Checklist item 0501.
