Counseling
The Six Functional Areas
Fidelity, Fighter, Fitness, Family, Finances, Future. MCO 1500.61's framework for developing a Marine. Use it as the prompt list for every counseling session.
Leader Steps
- Open every session with a quick read across all six F's
- Identify the F most under stress and anchor the session there
- Tag each target you set with the F it advances
- Pull in the unit SME for any F outside your wheelhouse
Why the Six F's Anchor Every Session
Per MCO 1500.61MCO 1500.61 paragraph 4.a.(2)(d), six functional areas frame leader development.MCO 1500.61 4.a.(2)(d) A Marine pulled forward in only one or two areas grows lopsided. Read across all six in every initial counseling session and at least four in every follow-on.
