Training Requirements Oversight

Categories of Training

Section leaders track training across four categories.

• MOS proficiency. Skill progression per the MOS Roadmap.
• Annual mandatory training. PFT, CFT, rifle qual, swim qual, SAPR, INFOSEC.
• Required PME. MarineNet, MCI, distance learning per rank.
• Deployment-specific training. Theater-specific requirements when deployment is on the calendar.

Each category has different cadence and different tracking systems.

Quarterly MOS Proficiency Audit

For each Marine, pull MOS Roadmap progress.

• Required certifications at the current rank.
• T&R event completions.
• Specific qualifications (instructor codes, NMOS, ASI).
• Gap analysis against the next rank's requirements.

A Marine missing certifications for the current rank is a Marine the section is letting drift.

Annual Mandatory Training

Section calendar drives scheduling.

PME and Distance Learning

Per rank requirements.

• L/Cpl through Cpl. Junior MCI courses, MarineNet basics.
• Sgt. NCO PME pre-board.
• SSgt. SNCO course pre-board.
• GySgt and above. Senior PME schools.
• Officer. JPME and resident school cycles.

Track each Marine's PME completion against the next promotion zone. A Marine in the zone with incomplete PME is locked out of promotion.

Deployment-Specific Training

When deployment lands on the calendar.

• Theater orientation training.
• Cultural awareness.
• Counter-threat training.
• Specific weapons or equipment training.
• Medical training (TCCC, TC3).
• Communications training.

Schedule deployment-specific training as soon as the deployment alert lands. Late scheduling cascades into late deployment-readiness.

Coordinating With S-3

Unit-level training events run through S-3.

• Confirm training calendar visibility.
• Coordinate Marine attendance against billet coverage.
• Track who attended what, with the post-event documentation.
• Reconcile training records to the section's tracker.

S-3 owns the unit calendar. You own who from the section attends.

Section Tracker

Update monthly. Refresh quarterly with the source systems.

Common Training Tracking Failures

• Section believes annual training is complete because the Marine attended a brief, but record entry never happened.
• MOS Roadmap progress never tracked at the section level.
• PME deferred Marine after Marine, then board season hits with multiple Marines locked out.
• Deployment-specific training scheduled too late, cascades.
• S-3 calendar not visible to the section.
