Role and responsibility

The Commander, Marine Forces Reserve (COMMARFORRES) per MCO 1320.11HMCO 1320.11H paragraph 4.b.(3) runs sponsorship for the Selected Marine Corps Reserve (SMCR), Active Reserve (AR), and Individual Mobilization Augmentee (IMA) populations. The Commanding General, Marine Corps Recruiting Command (CG, MCRC) per paragraph 4.b.(4) runs sponsorship for recruiting duty assignments. The SC at the gaining recruiting station or reserve unit owns daily execution. The unit S-1 officer signs by direction on the recruiting or reserve sponsor assignment.

Per MCO 1320.11H paragraph 4.b.(3), COMMARFORRES applies the MCSP to reservists transitioning between commands, transitioning to active duty for special work (ADSW), and transitioning to active duty for training (ADT). Per paragraph 4.b.(4), CG MCRC applies the MCSP to recruiting duty assignments including Recruiting Station, District, and Headquarters Marine Corps Recruiting Command staff. 5. Coordinate family handoff. The gaining recruiting station or reserve unit coordinates family handoff per the available installation or community-based services.
6. Coordinate IR&R handoff. Per paragraph 4.b.(9), the IR&R Program Manager at the gaining installation (when present) supports the inbound family. Independent-duty stations work with the closest installation IR&R office.
7. Track sponsorship coverage. The component unit SC tracks coverage on the unit sponsorship roster.
8. Document sponsorship completion in Page 11. Per MCO P1070.12K paragraph 4006, cut the Page 11 at the inbound brief.
9. Brief commander. The S-1 officer briefs the recruiting station or reserve unit commander on sponsorship posture.
10. Audit sponsorship execution. Run the component metrics cycle per Enclosure (3).
