IDT Period Limits

Per 10 USC 1014710 USC 10147 and MCRAMM Chapter 7 Section 1.

Standard Limits

• 48 paid IDTs per fiscal year (most members)
• 60 paid IDTs per fiscal year (Reserve general officers)
• 4 paid EDPs per fiscal year (subset of total IDTs)
• 2 IDT periods per calendar day maximum
• 4-hour minimum per IDT period (2-hour for FHD)

These limits cap pay drilled annually.

What Counts Toward 48 IDT Total

• Regular drill periods
• Paid Equivalent Duty Periods (EDPs) for missed drill
• Specific other paid IDT categories

What Does NOT Count Toward 48 IDT Total

• Funeral Honors Duty (FHD) - separate count
• Additional Training Periods (ATPs) - separate authorization
• Readiness Management Periods (RMPs) - separate authorization
• Active duty days (AT, ADOS, mobilization)
• Unpaid EDPs (EINs)

This separation allows authorized supplemental periods beyond the 48 limit.

Additional Training Periods (ATPs)

Per MCRAMM Chapter 7.

Purpose

Supplemental training beyond regular drill.

• Specific skills training
• Equipment training
• Range periods
• MOS-specific training

Authorization

ATPs require specific authorization.

• Unit commander or operational sponsor
• Documented authorization
• Pre-approved per ATP plan

Pay Treatment

• Earn drill pay at standard rate
• Earn retirement points
• Counted separately from 48-IDT total

Readiness Management Periods (RMPs)

Per MCRAMM Chapter 7.

Purpose

Administrative or readiness work outside regular drill.

• Command admin
• Training preparation
• Equipment management
• Specific readiness improvement

Authorization

RMPs require specific authorization.

• Unit commander or specific authority
• Documented authorization
• Specific readiness purpose

Pay Treatment

• Earn drill pay at standard rate
• Earn retirement points
• Counted separately from 48-IDT total

Additional Flight Training Periods (AFTPs)

For aviators.

Purpose

Aviation-specific flight currency training.

Authorization

• Restricted to aviation MOSs
• Specific aviation authorization
• Specific currency requirements

Pay Treatment

• Earn drill pay
• Earn retirement points
• Aviation-specific tracking

Equivalent Duty Periods (EDPs)

For making up missed drills.

Paid EDP (EIO)

• Replace missed regular IDT
• Performed within 60 days of missed drill
• Same fiscal year as missed drill
• Counts toward 48-IDT total
• Earns pay and points

Unpaid EDP (EIN)

• Used when paid EDP window expired
• Earns retirement points only
• Does not count toward 48-IDT pay total

Performance Steps for IDT Tracking

Step 1 - Track Each Member's IDT Total

Maintain tracker per member.

• Regular drill periods completed
• ATPs authorized and performed
• RMPs authorized and performed
• AFTPs (if applicable) performed
• FHD performed
• EDPs performed (paid and unpaid)

Step 2 - Verify Authority for Supplemental Periods

For ATPs, RMPs, AFTPs.

• Check authorization documentation
• Verify within authorized period
• Coordinate with command

Step 3 - Process Payments

Through Drill Manager.

• Specific pay codes per period type
• Verify each period before submission
• Coordinate with member's chain of command

Step 4 - Track Annual Limits

Throughout fiscal year.

• Monitor approaching 48-IDT limit
• Coordinate with command if member approaching limit
• Specific actions if limit reached

Step 5 - Address Limit Issues

If member approaches or reaches limits.

• Verify any further periods authorized as supplemental
• Specific decisions per member's situation
• Coordinate with command

When IDT Limits Affect Drill Operations

Member at 48-IDT Limit

Member completed 48 paid regular drill periods.

• Does not perform additional regular drill IDTs
• Would still perform supplemental ATP, RMP, AFTP, FHD
• Specific authorizations needed for supplemental

Unit Operational Need Beyond 48

Unit needs member's continued participation.

• Authorize ATPs or RMPs as appropriate
• Specific operational sponsor approval
• Document authority

Member Wants Additional Pay

Member requests additional drilling for pay.

• Limited to authorized supplemental periods
• Specific authorities needed
• Counseling on pay limits

Common IDT Limit Issues

Member Exceeds 48-IDT Limit

Pay processing for period 49+.

• Verify whether period was authorized supplemental
• If not authorized, coordinate correction
• Possible pay debt situation

Authorization Documentation Missing

ATP or RMP performed but no authorization on file.

• Coordinate retroactive documentation
• Or treat as unauthorized
