SELRES (SMCR)
SELRES Mobilization Readiness
SELRES members are the primary mobilization pool for the Marine Corps. Maintaining mobilization readiness requires current medical, dental, training, and administrative status. Pre-mobilization screening identifies and addresses readiness gaps.

Mobilization Readiness Overview
Per MCRAMM Chapter 7 and Chapter 10, SELRES (Selected Reserve, what most Marines call SMCR or the Reserves) members must maintain mobilization readiness for potential activation to active duty during war or national emergency.
A mobilizable SELRES member must be ready in five readiness domains.
Five Readiness Domains
Medical Readiness
- Current PHA (annual)
- Class 1 or Class 2 dental status
- Current immunizations
- No deployment-limiting medical conditions
- Specific deployment medications and accommodations addressed
Dental Readiness
- Class 1 or Class 2 dental status
- No deployment-blocking dental conditions
- Treatment current
Administrative Readiness
- Current MCTFS data
- Current dependent data and DEERS enrollment
- Current SGLI election
- Current RED with valid contacts
- Member personal records current
Training Readiness
- MOS qualification current
- Required training complete (SAPR, INFOSEC, etc.)
- PFT and CFT scores current
- Annual rifle qualification current
- Specific MOS training requirements met
Family Readiness
- Family Care Plan if applicable
- Family briefed on mobilization possibility
- Family support resources identified
Mobilization Authorities
Per 10 USC.
Full Mobilization (12301(a))
Declaration of war or national emergency.
- All ready reserve members subject to recall
- Including IRR and Standby
Partial Mobilization (12302)
Up to 1 million reservists for up to 24 months.
- SELRES and IRR primarily affected
- Specific to declared emergencies
Presidential Reserve Call-Up (12304)
Up to 200,000 for up to 365 days.
- Specific to operational needs
- President orders
Voluntary Active Duty (12301(d))
For specific missions.
- Member volunteers
- Specific operational needs
Pre-Mobilization Screening
When unit alerted for mobilization.
Step 1 - Receive Mobilization Alert
Unit receives notification.
- Mobilization timeline established
- Member roster identified
- Pre-mobilization screening initiated
Step 2 - Screen Each Member
Per readiness domains.
- Medical screening at MTF
- Dental screening
- Administrative review
- Training validation
- Family readiness check
Step 3 - Identify and Address Readiness Gaps
For members with gaps.
- Medical treatment
- Dental treatment
- Administrative updates
- Required training completion
- Family preparation
Step 4 - Process Cleared Members
For members ready to mobilize.
- Mobilization orders processing
- Travel coordination
- Specific deployment processing
Step 5 - Process Members Not Cleared
For members with significant gaps.
- Determination of mobilization possibility
- Specific deferment if applicable
- Coordinate with HQMC for unique cases
Post-Mobilization Processing
When mobilized members return.
Step 1 - Demobilization Processing
When member returns from active duty.

Step 2 - TAMP Coordination
Per 10 USC 114510 USC 1145.
- 180 days of TAMP coverage

Step 3 - Post-Deployment Assessments
Per DODI requirements.
