Role and responsibility

The unit training manager identifies service-directed and unit-directed training requirements from MCO 1500.63 and command guidance. The S-1 chief tracks completion per Marine in MCTIMS. The S-1 officer briefs shortfalls to the chain and routes make-up training scheduling. The commander adds unit-directed requirements per discretion under MCO 1553.3CMCO 1553.3C paragraph 4.a.(2)(d).2.

6. Track completion per Marine. Use MCTIMS UTM or IMM Scoresheets per paragraph 4.c.(6) for individual completion.
7. Roll up completion rates. Generate completion reports per requirement and per Marine.
8. Brief shortfalls. The S-1 officer presents shortfalls to the commander and subordinate leaders.
9. Schedule make-up training. The unit training manager schedules make-up sessions for delinquent Marines.
10. Refresh on update. Repeat the process at every MCO 1500.63MCO 1500.63 update.

• MCO 1500.63 update missed. The unit trains to last year's requirements. Subscribe to MARADMIN updates for the order.
• Make-up training not scheduled. Delinquent Marines accumulate. The unit training manager schedules make-ups within 30 days of delinquency.
• Completion rates not briefed to the commander. Commander-level visibility lags. Brief on a fixed cycle.

Decision points

• Commander-discretion versus service-directed. The requirement is unit-specific only. Per MCO 1553.3CMCO 1553.3C paragraph 4.a.(2)(d).2, commander-discretion requirements are permitted in addition to service-directed requirements. The commander decides scope.
