Role and responsibility

The CACO coordinates mortuary affairs with the PADD (Person Authorized to Direct Disposition) per MCO 3040.4MCO 3040.4 Chapter 5 paragraph 4. The HQMC Casualty Section coordinates national-level mortuary affairs. The S-1 officer signs by direction on mortuary affairs routing. The Marine Corps mortuary affairs office processes the actual disposition of remains.
