Authority
MCO 5040.6K, Enclosure 1, Chapter 6, Section 2c requires the inspected commander to submit a Corrective Action Report within 30 calendar days of receiving the FIR. The CAR covers every Functional Area with findings or every FA deemed ineffective. The CAR is the commander's response to the inspecting team.
What you sign
- The Corrective Action Report itself. Your signature commits the command to the plan and the dates inside it.
What the CAR contains
For each ineffective FA and for each finding under any FA, the CAR records:
- The ineffective Functional Area name and number, or the finding identifier.
- The reference cited by the inspecting team.
- The inspector-provided recommended solution.
- The corrective action your command commits to.
- The completion date, or the projected completion date when work is in progress.
Appendix D in MCO 5040.6K is the template. Use it.
Exception path
If IGMC or the CIG reviews your submitted CAR and finds a corrective action unsuitable, the inspecting agency coordinates with your command to develop an appropriate plan. You submit an updated CAR within 15 calendar days of that coordination. The 15-day clock applies to the revised CAR. The original 30-day clock applies to the first CAR.
After submission
IGMC or your CIG forwards your corrective actions to the respective FA sponsors and inspectors for suitability review. Sponsors verify the corrective actions tie back to the originating reference and resolve the finding. Track every commitment in the CAR through completion and document the closure in your inspection records.
