Bridging
Bridging to S-1 and PAC Overview
You sit between the Marine and the admin chain. The right walk-or-send call, the right package, the right follow-up. Skip a step and the Marine carries the friction.
Leader Steps
- Identify the package type the Marine needs
- Decide walk-the-Marine versus send-the-Marine
- Verify the package is complete before routing
- Track to S-1 acceptance with named handoff
- Follow up on cadence per the package type
What Bridging Means
You stand between the Marine and the S-1, PAC, IPAC, or higher admin chain. Bridging is the procedural work of getting a package from the section into the right hand at the right step.
Three jobs.
- Decide whether to walk or send.
- Build a complete package before routing.
- Follow up to acceptance and to closure.
A Marine who shows up to S-1 with an incomplete package goes home. A Marine who shows up to the wrong office goes home. A Marine sent without a leader follow-up cadence ends up in a queue with no advocate.
When the Bridge Fails
- Wrong office. Marine PCSes to S-1 with a question only PAC handles.
- Incomplete package. Marine carries an envelope missing two signatures.
- No handoff. Marine drops paperwork at a counter without naming a contact.
- No follow-up. Package sits two weeks while the Marine assumes it is moving.
- No escalation when stalled. Section accepts a 30-day delay because nobody pushed.
Each failure costs the Marine. Pay drops. Records lag. Boards see gaps. The fix is upstream of the package.
Where to Go Next
- When to walk versus send. The decision tree.
- Package checklist. Required documents per package type.
- Processing timelines. What S-1 and PAC actually take.
- Follow-up cadence. The leader's tracking discipline.
- Escalation paths. When the chain says no.
