Marriage Walkthrough
Marriage triggers DEERS enrollment, BAH change, ID card, NAVMC 10922. Inside 10 working days. The leader walks the Marine through the sequence so nothing slips.
Leader Steps
- Brief the Marine on the 10-day window before the wedding
- Verify certified marriage certificate within 7 days post-event
- Walk the Marine through NAVMC 10922 completion

Pre-Wedding Brief
When you learn a Marine is engaged, brief on the documentation sequence.
- Get the certified marriage certificate from the issuing county within 7 days post-wedding.
- Submit NAVMC 10922NAVMC 10922 within 10 working days of the marriage.
- Schedule RAPIDS appointment for spouse ID inside 30 days.
- Verify BAH change on next LES.
- Update SGLI beneficiary if changing.
A Marine engaged who hears this brief shows up post-wedding ready to execute. A Marine who learns this for the first time after the wedding loses the 10-day window.

Walking the NAVMC 10922
Sit with the Marine to complete the form.
- Member identifying data verified.
- Marriage event data captured (date, location).
- Spouse data captured (name, SSN, date of birth, citizenship).
- Member and spouse signatures.
- Witness signature.
Do not send the Marine to S-1 with a partially completed form.
RAPIDS Coordination
The spouse ID card requires a RAPIDS appointment.
- The Marine schedules.
- The Marine and spouse both attend.
- DEERS enrollment happens at the appointment.
- ID card issued at the appointment.
Coach the Marine to schedule inside 30 days of the marriage.
BAH Verification
BAH at the with-dependent rate kicks in effective the marriage date.
- Verify the LES at the next pay cycle reflects the with-dependent BAH.
- If the LES does not reflect the change, walk to S-1 with the Marine.
- The change effective date should be the marriage date, not the submission date.
A BAH change taking 60 days to reflect on LES has a routing problem. Push.
SGLI Beneficiary Update
The marriage may or may not change the Marine's SGLI beneficiary preferences. Brief the Marine.
- Current SGLI beneficiary on file.
- Whether the spouse should be added or replace the existing.
- Children from prior relationships affecting the choice.
- The decision is the Marine's.
The Marine submits the SGLV-8286 update through S-1.
RED-S Update
Post-marriage, RED-S contact information needs an update if the spouse becomes the primary next of kin.
- Coach the Marine to update on Marine Online.
- Verify the update landed.
Common Marriage Walkthrough Failures
- Marine submits photocopy of the marriage certificate. Returns from S-1.
- 10-day window slips because the Marine waited for "free time."
- Spouse ID appointment scheduled 60 days out, DEERS gap blocks medical care.
- BAH change submitted but the section never verifies the LES.
- SGLI never updated despite the Marine intending to.
