One of Six Enterprise Platforms
Per MARADMIN 325/26, GenAI.mil is one platform in the enterprise AI, data, and software (ADS) baseline. The baseline also holds the War Data Platform (WDP), Maven Smart System (MSS), Low-Code Application Development Platform (LCAP), Local Development and Data Science Environment, and Tactical Assault Kit (TAK). GenAI.mil is the one most Marines touch daily for CUI generative AI work. See Enterprise AI, Data, and Software Platforms for the full baseline.
Replaces NIPRGPT
NIPRGPT (Non-Classified Internet Protocol General Purpose Toolkit) was a prior generative AI platform. NIPRGPT is in the process of sunsetting and will no longer be available for use.

User Responsibility and Accountability
Per MARADMIN 018/26 paragraph 3.c. GenAI tools are NON-DETERMINISTIC and may produce inaccurate, biased, or incomplete information.
Your Responsibilities
- Critically EVALUATE any output from GenAI.mil.
- VERIFY any output before using it for official purposes.
- The user is ACCOUNTABLE for any products derived from the system.
Why This Matters
GenAI can hallucinate, fabricate references, miscount, misquote, and otherwise produce confident-sounding but incorrect responses. You are responsible for catching these errors before using GenAI output in any official capacity.
CamoGPT and Other Authorized Systems
Per MARADMIN 018/26 paragraph 4.c. The MARADMIN does not strictly limit the use of other GenAI platforms and systems by Marines. GenAI systems that meet the requirements for use on government systems continue to be authorized for their intended and approved purpose.
Examples
- CamoGPT.
- Other AI platforms meeting government system requirements.
See CamoGPT and Other Approved AI Tools for details.
Governance Tie-In
Per MARADMIN 018/26 paragraph 4.a. DC I is the designated authority for governance and oversight of all GenAI capabilities within the Marine Corps. Any command or organization seeking to develop, procure, or field a separate GenAI capability must coordinate with and receive approval from DC I prior to initiation.
See AI Governance and Approval for the full approval process.
Common Use Cases
GenAI.mil supports a wide range of work. Examples.

Common Errors
Submitting Prohibited Data
The most serious error. Submitting PII, PHI, or classified information violates platform terms and may have security consequences.
Mitigation. Before uploading or pasting, check that the information is CUI or below. When in doubt, do not submit.
Failing to Verify Output
Marines treat GenAI output as authoritative. Errors propagate into official products.
Mitigation. Every fact, citation, and figure must be independently verified before use.
Using Personal Devices
Personal devices are not authorized for GenAI.mil.
Mitigation. Use government-furnished equipment only.
Conflating With Commercial AI
Commercial GenAI tools (ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, etc.) are NOT authorized for processing CUI. Use GenAI.mil for CUI work.
