IRR and Standby Reserve Participation
IRR and Standby Reserve members do not drill but maintain reserve component status with minimum participation requirements. Annual readiness data, address updates, and muster compliance keep them in good standing.
Reserve Retirement Point System
The point system tracks reserve service for retirement eligibility. Members earn points for inactive duty, active duty, correspondence courses, and membership. 50 points per anniversary year is the minimum for a satisfactory year.
SELRES Participation Requirements
SMCR Marines (Selected Marine Corps Reserve) must meet specific participation requirements for IDT, AT, training, and readiness. Failure triggers Unsatisfactory Participation processing with potential separation.
Statement of Understanding (SOU)
The SOU is a written acknowledgment of reserve participation requirements signed by members in specific situations. Documents the member's understanding of obligations and consequences of failure to participate.
Unsatisfactory Participation Processing
When a SELRES Marine fails to meet participation requirements, the unit processes Unsatisfactory Participation. Three potential outcomes - return to good standing, transfer to IRR, or involuntary order to active duty under 10 USC 12303.
