Why Medical Standards Matter

Per MCRAMM Chapter 6, Reserve members must maintain medical standards for.

• Continued drilling status
• Mobilization eligibility
• Active duty deployment
• Specific MOS qualification
• Career continuation

A member who fails medical standards might face restricted duty, transfer to IRR, or separation.

Reserve Medical Categories

Per DODI 6025.19DODI 6025.19 and MCRAMM Chapter 6, members fall into specific medical readiness categories.

Category 1 (Fully Ready)

• Member meets all medical standards
• No deployment-limiting conditions
• Current PHA, dental, immunizations
• Eligible for full deployment

Category 2 (Partial)

• Member meets most standards
• Minor deployment-limiting conditions
• Specific work needed to reach Category 1

Category 3 (Not Ready)

• Member has deployment-limiting medical conditions
• Might not deploy without specific waivers
• Requires significant medical work

Category 4 (Indeterminate)

• Medical readiness does not be determined
• Often due to incomplete information
• Requires action to reach a category

Performance Steps for Medical Readiness Tracking

Step 1 - Track Each Member

Maintain medical readiness data per member.

• Last PHA date
• Last dental exam
• Current immunization status
• Current category

Step 2 - Identify Members Approaching Currency

For members with expiring requirements.

• Schedule physicals
• Coordinate dental appointments
• Update immunizations

Step 3 - Address Findings

For members with medical issues.

• Specific treatment

Step 4 - Coordinate with Medical Personnel

I&I admin coordinates with medical staff.
